We saw many new faces this week. One in particular moved us, an elderly gentleman, who it was clear hadn’t visited a food bank before…

When serving food, detail to presentation is important as it contributes to the dignity with which we serve our guests. Giving in the manner we would like to receive ourselves is a very important cornerstone of the culture of our kitchen.

We are beginning to see more homeless people coming to our kitchen. Our current provision of food range falls short of what they require, so this week we launched our emergency food box for those without access to cooking facilities.

The trial queuing system seems to be a success, and we are also seeing a sense of community forming among the guests… the younger ones making tea for those not as agile.

Some of our guests advised us that we should set up a queuing system to counter the rush at the start when we open the kitchen…

It was quite a dull day with constant rain. That didn’t deter our guests from coming, they still have to eat no matter the weather. By 1.45pm whilst we were still setting up to open at 2pm, a crowd was already forming, a sign that the kitchen is now an established part of the local community.

This week we launched a bakery section – a selection of fresh pastries and bread…

Following several requests we have added a vegetarian hot meal option..
