Why is a convicted felon, found guilty of assaulting a black mother in front of her traumatised child, still on the police force one month after his sentencing?
Met Protecting A Felon
Today marks one month from the sentencing of disgraced Met officer PC Lathwood, who was found guilty of attacking a black mother in front of her traumatised young child in Croydon, after falsely accusing her of not paying a £1.75 bus fare.
At the trial Lathwood had incredulously claimed he had acted to protect his victims child, the judge wasn’t having any of that, declaring that the officers evidence “lacked all credibility”.
He was fined £2,950 of which his victim only received £200. Its interesting that “concerned police colleague” immediately started a fundraiser to raise £54,000 for the “financial hardships of PC Perry Lathwood following his conviction for assault”.
Inside Croydon reports that Lathwood, despite his conviction, has still not been dismissed or suspended from his duties and he remains on full salary (July 12 2024).
Community Ignored
On the day of his sentencing, the Resistance Kitchen joined over a dozen local community organisations to demand the dismissal of Lathwood.
Our letter to
- Mark Rowley- Commissioner Metropolitan Police Service
- Chris Philp- Minister for Crime, Policing and Fire
- Sadiq Khan- Mayor of London
- Andy Brittain – Chief Superintendent of Croydon Police
has gone unanswered, apart from an acknowledgement of receipt from Andy Brittain.
Its very disappointing to see the Metropolitan Police Service ignore the concerns of the community. It renders their latest window dressing exercise – London Police Race Action Plan ‘to win the trust of the black community’ meaningless.
