Croydon Constituent Abducted by Israel: Our Letter to Sarah Jones MP

Resistance Kitchen has written to Croydon MP Sarah Jones following the abduction of local resident and community member Cerie Bullivant. Cerie, a father of four, was part of a civilian flotilla delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza when his vessel was intercepted in international waters by Israeli military forces and he was detained alongside hundreds of others.

Our letter calls for urgent action to secure his release and demands accountability for what we believe to be a serious violation of international law. We are publishing this letter publicly in the interests of transparency and to underline the urgency of the situation.

The letter reads:

21 May 2026

For Attention of Sarah Jones,
MP for Croydon West

Ref: Abduction of Cerie Bullivant

Dear Sarah Jones,

I am writing on behalf of Resistance Kitchen, a Croydon-based community organisation supporting those in need in Croydon and campaigning for social justice locally and globally.

We are outraged by the abduction on Monday evening of one of our community members and your constituent, Cerie Bullivant, a devoted father of four.

Cerie was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian humanitarian mission delivering essential aid – including food, medicine, and baby formula – to Gaza, where the population is facing catastrophic conditions. After nearly three years of genocide, over 2.1 million people have been displaced. Save the Children reports that at least one child in Gaza has been killed every hour, with over 20,000 children killed by last September alone. The ongoing blockade of Gaza constitutes collective punishment and is a central driver of mass starvation and humanitarian collapse.

Cerie’s vessel, the Kiryakos X, was violently intercepted by Israeli military forces alongside approximately 50 other boats near Cyprus, around 250 nautical miles from Gaza, in international waters. This constitutes a grave breach of international law. Reports indicate that the flotilla was fired upon and that multiple civilians were injured during the assault.

In total, 428 human rights activists were detained. Video footage released by Israel’s Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir shows detainees being humiliated, assaulted, and forced at gunpoint to kneel down into stress positions while restrained. These are deeply alarming indications of abuse.

This attack follows another illegal interception just two weeks prior, in which Israeli forces detained more than 170 activists off the coast of Greece, with credible reports of torture and sexual violence. Despite UK citizens being among those abducted, the UK government failed to respond meaningfully. This silence has contributed to a pattern of escalating impunity.

We ask you directly: what immediate action will you take to secure the safe release of your constituent, Cerie Bullivant?

We expect you to use your position in Parliament to publicly condemn this unlawful act, to demand his immediate and unconditional release, and to press for accountability. We further call on you to advocate for concrete measures, including sanctions and the suspension of UK-Israel trade agreements, in response to these ongoing violations.

Failure to act in the face of such grave abuses would be a betrayal of your constituent and your duty to represent them.

We await your urgent response.

Yours sincerely,

Abbas Ali
