On Tuesday 18th March the Resistance Kitchen joined other local community groups to protest outside Croydon town hall demanding Croydon council divest from the arms trade and genocide.
Bankrupt, Yet Complicit In Genocide
Croydon council is bankrupt. It is cutting services, closing down libraries, selling off assets, and raising council tax by unprecedented levels.
And yet at the same time, we discovered, it has lent Israel half a million pounds bail out money to help bankroll genocide in Gaza!
Freedom of information requests have shown that Croydon council’s pension fund has invested over £120 million in companies implicated in war crimes and human rights atrocities in Palestine, Yemen, and elsewhere.
This goes against the council’s commitment to anti-racist, ethical practices.
Croydon council pension committee was meeting inside. They have ignored a petition from local residents asking for ethical investment that will benefit the local community, not bankroll war and death.
Groups protesting outside, apart from the Resistance Kitchen, included Crystal Palace friends of Palestine, Croydon Palestine solidarity campaign, Croydon Green party, Croydon Trade Union Council, and Croydon 4 Palestine.
If you are a local resident please sign the petition and write to your local councillor, and raise the issue at their surgeries.
